Recently, I met someone who told me they had gone walking in the mountains three months after taking the Lightning Process training. Prior to that, she had been seriously debilitated, to the point where she would be in bed all day, most days, and for several years had only fleeting interactions with her young child.
She explained that what family and friends talk about is how quickly she was walking in the mountains, captured in her many celebratory photographs.
However, for her the standout moment of her Lightning Process journey was a couple of weeks after doing the initial training, sitting on the sofa with her son, watching TV together with a cup of tea – which she had made herself. I know which of these two moments make the best photographs of the extraordinary things that can happen when a person learns to influence their health.
It’s at this point it’s good to reflect on the fact that mountains come in all shapes and sizes and not all obstacles we face are visible. I was reminded of this not long ago when I was in a seminar and the speaker had to leave the podium because they felt so nervous, that they almost fainted.
This was me before I learned how to speak in public in a relaxed way, to enjoy it, without being consumed with anxiety, perfectionism, and feeling intimidated by my audience. Moving through the world in that way was very costly to my mental and physical health. Trying to portray visually the massive milestones I reached on these kinds of activities after doing the Lightning Process training myself would probably make very boring photographs!
These kinds of milestones may be harder to capture than ‘bed-bound to mountain walking’ but they are not boring and were, in my world for example, Everest-like in their importance.
And yet it is interesting how many of our clients find it hard to celebrate their successes. Take, for example, someone who hasn’t been able to wash their hair by themselves for a long time. Many people who take the Lightning Process training discount being able to bathe themselves for the first time in years as evidence of success in retraining how their brain and body works – because it is too normal and ordinary. Yet it signifies they are doing something utterly awesome – retraining how their neurology works and regaining their independence and the start of liberation from misery!
It is hard to convey in pictures, the quiet revolution of what it is like to regain, or have for the first time, things that others take for granted. So here is a shout out for the words. I am grateful to this client for allowing me to share these words about her success in regaining the ability to drive after she totally lost her confidence, and the independence that goes with it:
“I wasn’t sure about the Lighting Process but having tried everything else, what did I have to lose? I signed up, listened to the podcasts and started a 3-day session with Jude. At the time it was thoroughly enjoyable and informative, and I can honestly say at the end of the last session, I was kind of like, that was nice, but what next? My next was to buy a car, the only way to get back driving again was to have one. I drove again 5 days later. 18 months later I achieved my goal of driving a 240-mile round trip to visit a dear friend. I still don’t know what it was that changed but I owe my independence to Jude and the Lightning Process. Thank you.”
As we near the end of 2023 I invite you to reflect on all the things you are achieving – every kind of mountain – and what they mean to you, and especially the joy of the normal. Please get in touch if you want to find out more.
