Facts about the Long Covid
Long Covid is a newly recognised illness that has impacted countless individuals worldwide. Estimates suggest that 10-45% of those who contracted Covid continue to experience symptoms for up to six months after infection.
These varying figures highlight the lack of consensus even on basic information, making Long Covid a complex and often confusing topic. With limited research, diverse opinions, and few effective treatment options, understanding this condition can be challenging. To help clarify the facts, we’ve thoroughly reviewed research databases to create this guide, which also explores our specialized area of interest—the Lightning Process.
Do any treatments work for Long Covid?
Yes, as a newly recognised condition, research on Long Covid is still in its early stages. However, it has already identified some promising interventions, including:
- The recent per-reviewed study, published in 2025, evaluated the LP for Long COVID and found all participants made significant improvements, with over 90% of participants reported being 85% back to normal or more, and concludes:
‘The Lightning Process is a promising and safe intervention for symptoms of long COVID. Primary care clinicians can refer patients for treatment with a high chance of benefit without fear of harm.’There are also multiple peer-reviewed published case histories of recovery from Long Covid (2023) - A systematic review of Long Covid interventions published in 2024 in the BMJ, which found evidence supporting the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), as well as physical and mental health rehabilitation—including gradually increasing exercise—as useful treatments for Long Covid.
Are Viral Fragments the Cause of Long Covid, and If So, Are Antiviral Drugs the Only Solution?
Experts agree that the exact cause of Long Covid remains uncertain, and the “viral fragment” theory is just one of several hypotheses yet to be conclusively proven. However, evidence suggests that a variety of non-drug-based approaches can effectively support individuals with Long Covid.
Is there evidence that the Lightning Process helps those with Long Covid?
Yes. It’s early days for research into Long Covid generally, but already an important paper evaluating the LP for Long Covid has been published. It found all participants made significant improvements, with over 90% of participants reported being 85% back to normal or more, and concludes:
The Lightning Process is a promising and safe intervention for symptoms of long COVID. Primary care clinicians can refer patients for treatment with a high chance of benefit without fear of harm. Full paper is here.
A further three peer-reviewed case histories have also been published on Long Covid and the Lightning Process.
Beyond formal studies, there are hundreds of peronal accounts online from individuals with Long Covid who have used the Lightning Process to improve their health, return to work, and resume an active lifestyle.
Can the Lightning Process, a Non-Drug-Based Approach, Help with Physical Health Issues Like Long Covid?
The Lightning Process is a whole-body approach that looks at how the brain mind and body all work together to improve our health. Studies show it can help those with issues with similar symptoms, such as ME/CFS.
While research on the Lightning Process and Long Covid is still in its early stages, initial findings suggest it may offer significant benefits for individuals with Long Covid. Moreover, non-drug approaches such as CBT. have also been shown to help manage Long Covid symptoms effectively.
Do doctors use it, and are practitioners registered?
The Lightning Process seminars are run by skilled, extensively trained and registered professionals, and the practitioner membership includes medical doctors and other health care professionals. Many doctors, healthcare professionals and researchers, with Long Covid, have taken the LP to help improve their health and return to work.
