Getting a Grip on Pain and the Brain
This brilliant talk by Dr Tasha Stanton talks about pain and altering perceptions of it. She has been studying people with osteo arthritis (which as you may know, is something I’m particularly interested in – read my story about becoming bionic here).
She has found that the structural damage doesn’t directly link to the amount of pain someone experiences. She has used illusions to reduce pain considerably and even get rid of it all together.
It shows that the pain isn’t just about the joint, your brain decides is something is painful which opens up the door to new options such as the Lightning Process to be recognised in the approach to these limiting conditions.
I don’t want to spoil the video for you but look out for the fascinating section on phantom limbs – our brains are amazing!
