There’s a feeling of safety when you’re hiding in your comfort zone and change is scary.  Whilst logically you want to thrive, is staying in your comfort zone keeping you stuck?

Sometimes life takes over and you are forced into the unknown.  Although change can be uncomfortable at first, as you work through it, things get much easier. You quickly find out things aren’t as bad as the stories you’d been telling yourself.

What’s your comfort zone?

It’s a place where you know what to expect even if it’s not good.  You feel a sense of safety and know how to manage the situations presenting themselves.  Whilst you know logically you are capable and deserving of more, for some reason you stay stuck.  You question your ability to thrive and get the life you love.

Do the mindset work

Become aware of what is happening when you start to move outside your comfort zone.  What are the stories you tell yourself?  Are they useful to you or are they sabotaging you? Most of these stories will be coming from a place of fear so address it using the LP or your favourite personal development technique.

Think about what has worked for you in the past and how you can apply this learning to the new situation.  Know once you get used to the new ‘thing’, you’ll wonder why you were ever phased by it in the first place.

Remind yourself of times you succeeded in something that at first scared you.  Use these to reinforce your decision to step out of your comfort zone.

Recognise that everything will not work out as planned and that’s okay.  Use these times as examples to learn from and put them down to experience rather than trying to control everything.

Take action

When you’re heading into new territory, the hardest part is taking the first step into the unknown.  Once you start moving, you will start to build momentum which will help you to keep going.  Consistent regular action is the way out of your comfort zone.

Work out what you want to achieve and create a plan of action, breaking it down into small, manageable steps.   This will stop it seeming like such a big barrier to entering your new zone of growth.  Remember to celebrate each step as you go, and you’ll soon be making progress.

Tell a trusted friend about what you are working on so they can support you and help keep you accountable.

Comfort zones change as you grow and every time you are pushed outside one, it will cause a reaction.  We are all work in progress and working on your mindset and taking action are ongoing challenges.  They are absolutely worth the effort if you want to achieve your potential.
